Over 30,000 students in Maldives have received the first dose of the Covid vaccine

Education Ministry said on Wednesday that 30,000 students between the ages of 12 and 17 have received the first dose of the Covid vaccine.

Maldives is administering Pfizer vaccines to children in the aforementioned age group. Education Ministry said the program aimed at inoculating children had a capacity to fully vaccinate 40,000 students.

This program is currently active in 181 schools of Maldives. According to statistics released by the ministry, 30,109 students have received their first dose so far.

The government intends to re-start extracurricular activities once all the eligible children been fully inoculated.

As only fully vaccinated people are allowed to enter school premises as well, school staff have been informed they should ensure they have received the second dose of the vaccine before September starts.

Since COVID-19 was initially found in Maldives in March 2020, schools in the Greater Male’ Area have been mostly teaching online. When the academic new year restarted on August 10, schools started to teach on premises as well.

So far 379,379 people have received one dose of COVID-19 in Maldives while 300,427 people have been fully vaccinated.
