President urges everyone to vaccinate: Do it for your family, do it for your community

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih urges Maldivians to get their COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible so that life may be resumed as it was pre-pandemic.

Quoting a tweet from Health Protection Agency (HPA), where the agency announced that booking appointments for AstraZeneca vaccinations were open, he had pushed everyone to get their vaccine shot as soon as possible.

"If you haven't already, please go and get your shots now," he said.

The AstraZeneca vaccines Maldives bought arrived here last week, after various delays. Some of the islands started administering these vaccines on Tuesday. HPA had said Greater Male Area' would start administering them today onwards.

In the President's tweet, he said vaccines were our pathway to return to the way our lives were before.

"Do it for your families, do it for your community," he said.

After stopping vaccination in Male' Area for Eid celebrations on July 18, it was resumed on Tuesday. Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines are now being administered in Male' area.

Furthermore, the government plans to ensure 90 percent of all eligible Maldivian residents are vaccinated at the end of August. As of Wednesday, 321,594 people in Maldives has received on dose of the vaccine while 263,067 people have received two doses. According to HPA, 50 percent of Maldivians are already fully vaccinated.
