President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that the government has no plans to dissolve women's development committees (WDCs) and is actively working to empower them.

The President made these remarks in response to a question raised by a member of the Ukulhas Women's Development Committee during a meeting with the Ukulhas Council and the Women's Development Committee.

President Muizzu said that the government is not looking to dissolve the committees. He also reiterated his commitment to address the proposals from the women’s development committees, which he reiterated during his visit to Thoddoo yesterday. This could involve amending relevant laws, he added.

"This is a message to all WDC members in the Maldives. I remember very well the promise I made. The WDC request was to change the status of the allowance to a salary, along with Ramadan allowances and maternity leave," the President said.

"I will hopefully fulfill my promise by amending the Decentralization Act and the Employment Act. Then everything requested will be arranged," he said.
