President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom officially unveiled the resort developed in Lhaviyani atoll Huravalhi island, which boasts the world’s largest underwater restaurant, late Monday.

The resort, developed by local tycoon Champa Mohamed Moosa, was opened for tourists last December. A special offer with 50 percent discount has been introduced for the grand opening.

The most special feature of the resort is its underwater restaurant, which is the largest in the world to date. Named “5.8 Undersea”, the restaurant accommodates 24 customers at once, featuring only tables for two.

The restaurant is located 5.8 meters under the sea and was officially inaugurated by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim. After the inauguration, the First Family shared a dinner at the restaurant.

During the inauguration ceremony, Mohamed Moosa said that he had been inspired by the world’s first underwater restaurant, which is located at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Resort, and aimed to open the world’s largest underwater restaurant.

He further expressed gratitude to President Yameen for his support in the venture.

The resort includes 60 ocean villas and 30 beach villas. All the rooms are designed such that their views face either the sunset or sunrise.

Moreover, the resort is an environment friendly resort which will be reusing waste to produce energy to control the temperature of water, establish solar panels, produce water and also has a marine biologist onsite.
