Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure began distribution of official guarantees to the recipients of the 7000 apartments allocated under the social housing scheme 'Hiyaa Project' on Saturday.
According to the Ministry, the document of ownership guarantees housing units to individuals who have been deemed the recipients of the 7000 apartments from the permanent list of the 'Hiyaa Project' winners published in the Gazette.
In addition, all agreements and payments for the housing units will be distributed by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Meanwhile, President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's office pledged that the new administration will launch an investigation into the alleged corruption cases concerning the allocation of the housing units.
Responding to the incoming government, the Minister of Housing, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu asserted his stance that the units were given fairly, stating that it would serve an injustice to pull back the current recipients from what they are due.
The Minister added that those in possession of official documents would be within their rights to head to court, should the new government deny them their property.
Prior to this, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had ordered the Ministry to halt the ongoing social housing project.
The graft watchdog ordered to halt development as it is currently probing a number of complaints submitted regarding the project.
The housing units of the 'Hiyaa Project' is expected to conclude by April 2019 according to the Housing Ministry.
