Foreigner who ran prostitution ring married to a local

Maldives Immigration has said today that the prostitution network that they uncovered during their recent operations was run by a foreign man who was married to a Maldivian.

Maldives Immigration has said today that the prostitution network that they uncovered during their recent operations was run by a foreign man who was married to a Maldivian.

The foreigner, identified as Arif Kamadari of Bangladesh, was arrested and has since been deported. A number of other individuals were also detained alongside him, and all have now been deported, Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Mohamed Shifan said in a press briefing today.

Immigration said that between 2019 and his arrest, he had been responsible for bringing in 23 foreign women to Maldives who had been made to work in prostitution.

In the special operations being conducted by Immigration and Police, 101 foreigners have been detained between June 29 and last Tuesday.

Immigration has said that 2013 expatriates living illegally in the country have been deported in the past seven months.
