The Badminton Association of Maldives has announced an annual budget of MVR 18 million for 2023.
Recently awarded the best national sports association at the Maldives Sports Awards 2023, the Badminton Association announced an annual total budget of MVR 18,873,891.84 at its annual general meeting, held last Saturday.
During the AGM, the association announced plans to host 13 national competitions throughout the year, and three international competitions that will be held in Malé. The association also announced the debut of the Maldives Invitational Challenge in May.
The national badminton team will also participate in the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Madagascar from August 25 to September 3 and the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 3.
Meanwhile, several national-level badminton players received scholarships and training opportunities to improve their skills. Recently, both Shuba Mohamed Shareef and Mohamed Saalim Abdul Samad were awarded the BML Sports Scholarship, while the senior team’s Fathimath Nabeeha, Aminath Nahaaba, Nibaal Ahmed, Mohamed Ajufaan Rasheed, Zayan Zaki, and Ahmed Thoif received training opportunities under the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment’s ‘Arutha’ programme.
