The former Minister of Home Affairs, Umar Naseer, has pledged to privatise most of the government companies, if he were elected as president.
Umar had announced his candidacy for the coming Presidential Elections and has been revealing his pledges.
While announcing this new pledge, Umar stated that it was not acceptable for the government to compete with private businesses, noting that the state generates income from local businesses by means of tax.
According to Umar, in his administration, the government would only take part in businesses that could have a negative impact on the people without their engagement.
Referring to a report by World Bank in 2015, he said that out of 65 registered state companies, only nine generate profit. He added that due to this, in his presidency, 80 percent of government companies would be combined and privatised.
Umar has also vowed to give shares from the privatised companies to its employees and other state employees.
The government should be a regulating body rather than being involved in the actual businesses, he declared.
Umar went on to say that every government to date attempted to fulfill personal agendas, but his regime would bring that to a stop.
