Maldives Customs Service revealed that import-export revenue for October dropped 41 percent compared to the figures for the same period in 2019.
According to statistics publicised by Customs, Maldives collected a total of MVR 174 million as import-export revenue last month. In 2019, import and export figures for the month of October were recorded at MVR 295 million.
However, the official statistics show that goods worth MVR 305 million exported from the country in October represented an increase, compared to exports for the same period last year which were valued at MVR 289 million.
Despite the increase in exports, the volume of imports to Maldives fell by 51 percent in October, with a decrease from MVR 4.2 billion to MVR 2.1 billion.
According to Customs, the highest fraction of imports were from Oman and India, with goods worth MVR 287 million and MVR 270 million imported respectively. Maldives also imported goods worth MVR 261 million from China.
