The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has announced that various fees and penalties related to expatriate workers in the Maldives owed to the state, exceed MVR 1 billion and if these dues are not paid before July 18, strict measures will be taken.
In an announcement, the Ministry stated that employers must pay all fees and penalties stipulated in the law and regulations before July 18. The identities of those who do not pay will be publicly announced and they will be suspended through the expat system. The issuance of new permits related to foreigners will also be suspended for them.

The government has initiated several efforts to stabilize the situation of expatriates in the Maldives. These include taking photographs and biometrics of all expatriates living in the Maldives and ensuring compliance with regulations. The government will also work towards identifying violators of the regulations and determining the companies or individuals they work for under this program.
