73 journalists sign petition calling to investigate local editor

A petition urging authorities to investigate numerous complaints publicised against current Chief Editor of local media outlet 'Avas Online', Adam ‘Mundoo’ Haleem was submitted, on Tuesday, to the President's Office, Maldives Media Council, Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, Ministry of Home Affairs and Maldives Police Service.

Adam ' Mundoo' Haleem is presently Chief Editor at Avas Online, formerly Editor at VNews. During his previous posting, he was arrested for assaulting a female journalist, though later released. A petition urging authorities to investigate numerous complaints publicised against current Chief Editor of local media outlet 'Avas Online', Adam ‘Mundoo’ Haleem was submitted, on Tuesday, to the President's Office, Maldives Media Council, Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, Ministry of Home Affairs and Maldives Police Service.

Carrying the signatures of 73 journalists working in 19 different media outlets, the petition also calls to revoke all awards granted to Haleem, the 2018 recipient of the country’s most prestigious award in journalism.
