Measures to be implemented towards minimising JSC's expenses

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to implement measures to minimise its expenses.

In a letter sent by the Commission to Chief Judicial Administrator Aishath Rizna today, JSC said that cost cutting measures are to be implemented in accordance with the President's Office orders considering the current economic situation of the country.

The letter detailed that the decision to minimise its recurrent expenses was made during the last Commission meeting held on Monday.

As such, the measures would take into account the factors outlined by the President's Office and plans made by the Commission as well as the Department of Judicial Administration (DGA) this year.

Steps to be implemented include

- Stop all programmes except those conducted with third party assistance

- Overtime work to only be allowed under the special approve of a supervisor and supervisors to monitor overtime

- Stop hiring new employees

- Stop hiring new judges

- Postpone inauguration of the new court

- Stop approving judge's paid leave for long term courses

The current economic status of the country has led the government to make difficult decisions including reducing the number of political appointees and opting out of hosting celebratory events.
