President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has requested citizens to go out and vote early in the parliamentary elections being held nationwide today.

The President arrived to cast his vote at the polling station in Thaajuddin School at 8:40am on Sunday morning.

Speaking to reporters after casting the ballot, President Dr Muizzu urged every citizen to exercise their right to vote as soon as possible.

"Voting is a constitutional right and responsibility afforded to every citizen. All citizens should come out and exercise their right to vote as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of eligible voters to not wait until evening and quickly attend their respective polling stations to cast ballots," stated the President.

Voting is scheduled to continue until 17:30 hrs on Sunday, with the President of the Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeq having requested voters to turn out early as queues at the polling station will close exactly at half-past five. There are 284,337 people are eligible to vote in the Maldives' parliament elections this year, including 139,165 women and 145,162 men.
