Thirty seven bills to be submitted to parliament this term including amendments to the Constitution

The government has decided to submit 37 bills to the parliament this legislative term including amendments to the constitution.

Laws of the parliament stipulate that the government is mandated to deliver a list of each bill that will be submitted to the parliament each legislative term.

Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla declared while beginning today's parliament session, that the parliament has received the list of bills and revealed that there are 37 bills the government intends to propose to the parliament this term.

This also includes bills initially set to be submitted during the previous term as well as three bills sent back during the former legislative term. Among these, the session held today had heard the first reading of the Sovereign Development Fund bill as well as the bill proposing amendments to the Health Service Provision Act.

In response to a question posed by Mihaaru News regarding the amendments to the Constitution, Attorney General Ahmed Usham stated that the list is a complete list of amendments including those amendments to the Constitution deemed necessary for the passing of some bills. He added that the government intends to amend Articles of the Constitution concerning the amendments they seek for the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Act as well.

"There are some Acts that cannot be amended without bringing some amendments to Constitution itself. As such, the government intends to bring various amendments to the Constitution." said AG Usham.

He assured that research on these amendments are currently progressing.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had previously announced that over 200 bills need to be passed at the parliament to implement his presidential manifesto.
