Besides Hassan Saaid who triumphed Maldives' first gold in the South Asian Games, Nepalese native Santoshi Shrestha is also set to join the tournament.
Accomplished local athlete, Saaid will demonstrate his talents at the sprint event while representing Dhivehi Sifainge Club.
At the recently concluded South Asian Games, Saaid had clinched gold in the 100m sprint and another medal - silver - at the 200m race. His gold medal is the first ever gold medal earned by Maldives at the South Asian Games.
Shrestha, affiliated with Island Runner Maldives Club, had arrived at the country on Monday. She triumphed a gold medal at the South Asian Games after closing the 10,000m race in first place and will be battling in the 5,000m category at the Athletics Championship.
The competition scheduled to commence at Male' Synthetic Track tomorrow will run until the end of Saturday.
