Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has confirmed a minimum price for Yellowfin Tuna and Skipjack Tuna in Maldives.
According to the ministry's announcement, fish that weigh 1.5 kilograms or above must be sold for a minimum of MVR 13.
Fish that measure below 1.5 kilograms is to be priced for MVR 5.15 or higher.
The aforementioned price controls will be effective from September 24 onwards.
Additionally, the fisheries ministry noted that the minimum prices would only be applicable for registered companies that purchased fish from local fishermen for processing and export.
Previously, prices were set at MVR 7 for fish weighing 1.5 kilograms or above and MVR 3.70 for fish that weighed below 1.5 kilograms. These prices were set on May 13, 2010.
