Horizon Fisheries Maldives lowered the price of its canned tuna, as a response to the economic impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
In a press release last Thursday, the local tuna processing firm announced that the price of its 'Maandhoo Mas' brand tuna cases has been decreased from MVR 650 to MVR 635.
Horizon Fisheries stated that it made the decision in order to provide ease in attaining canned tuna for the public, amidst the dropping economy of the country over the coronavirus pandemic.
Noting that the demand for canned tuna is on the rise, the company assured its Maandhoo Mas stock will last for the duration of the approaching holy fasting month of Ramadan. Horizon Fisheries added that it had the capacity to produce enough for the public should circumstances prove otherwise.
Maandho Mas tuna cans are available at Horizon Fisheries' outlet 'Seafood Plus', located in front of the National Museum on Chaandhanee Magu road in capital Male'.
Maldives currently has 13 confirmed and 11 active cases of COVID-19. The island nation recorded its first two recoveries on Friday. No locals have tested positive for the virus as of yet. So far, only tourists and resort employees have confirmed infections.
The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected more than 276,700 and claimed over 11,400 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 91,900 have recovered.
