United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) kicked off this year's Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) in Addu City.
YLP 2019 is taking place in Hulhumeedhoo, Addu City, from September 3 to 7, in partnership with Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment with the support of Addu City Council and various NGOs operating in the atoll.
The aim of this programme is to create community leaders who will advocate for social issues within the city, and targets youth aged between 16 to 25 years living in the atoll.
In addition, YLP seeks to enhance leadership skills and instill civil responsibility and critical thinking in young people while creating awareness on democratic principles, as well as social and environmental issues.
The camp intents to inspire participants to become agents of change, resulting in creating a strong base of future leaders in the community.
Since UNDP hosted the first Youth Leadership Programme in Maldives during 2010, the programme has produced over 150 young individuals with vision, passion and immense potential for social good for the betterment of the country.
