The newly appointed ambassadors of Argentina, Cyprus and the Netherlands to Maldives presented their credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday.
The ambassadors handed over their letters of credence at separate ceremonies held at the President’s Office.
During the meeting with Argentine Ambassador Daniel Chuburu, President Solih highlighted the blue economy initiatives under the administration’s Strategic Action Plan and expressed interest in partnering with Argentina to advance such interests. They also spoke of establishing trade relations, strengthening tourism cooperation, pursuing green energy products, and promoting South-South Cooperation through the Argentine Fund for South-South and Triangular Cooperation (FOAR).
President Solih expressed hopes of building a closer trade and development partnership with Cyprus, during his sit-down with Ambassador Agis Loizou. Their discussion on establishing stronger ties focussed on the areas of tourism, environment and climate change.
Speaking with Dutch Ambassador Tanja Gonggrijp, President Solih underscored the close diplomatic relations the two countries have enjoyed for 40 years, further highlighting the number of tourist arrivals from Netherlands. The president and the ambassador further discussed strengthening cooperation in various areas of mutual concern including environment and climate change, and increasing trade and commerce between Maldives and Netherlands.
