Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Zahir joined the delegation, which inspected the final stages of the USD 24 million six-storey mosque construction, initiated in 2016 during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Initially scheduled for its public opening in July, the mosque was delayed by the contractor due to difficulties in attaining required funds. The Turkish company Alke-Turmaks, which developed Tree Top Hospital in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale', is constructing the mosque.

The largest mosque in the country capable of housing 6,000 worshipers, the King Salman Mosque will consist of a multi-purpose hall, a library, Centre for the Holy Quran, classrooms and meeting rooms.
