Over 2500 passports have been issued within a week in the run up to the end of the academic year school holidays.
Speaking at yesterday's press conference by the 'Home Team' - the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology and other institutions operated under it - Chief Principal Immigration Officer Fathimath Latheefa stated that with increased numbers of Maldivians travelling abroad during the school holidays, the requests for passport issuance also see a spike.
Latheefa revealed that between May 1st and May 9th, a total of 2581 passports had been issued.
"Maldives Immigration calls on the public to avoid waiting for the last minute in the case of planned travels, and instead to apply early for passport issuance, as well as to apply early for renewals if the current passport has less than six months left for the date of expiry," Latheefa said.
Every year, school holidays and Eid holidays see the number of passport applications increasing.
