Hulhumale Medical Facility handed over to IGMH

Authorities transferred the management of the Hulhumale' Medical Facility to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Sunday.

Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed formalised the hand over of the 300-bed facility during a ceremony held in the reclaimed suburb of Hulhumale'.

Several top officials from government institutions, state-owned enterprises and IGMH attended the ceremony.

Designed to support Maldives' COVID-19 response, the temporary hospital was established on an empty plot of land directly in front of Tree Top Hospital with a budget of MVR 40 million.

The temporary hospital is intended to treat COVID-19 patients that require hospitalization. Individuals in critical condition will be transferred to Tree Top Hospital. A total of 200 ventilators can be placed at the facility.

Although the project was initially finalised on April 20, certain delays occurred after some workers tested positive for COVID-19.

Development effots were headed by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Fenaka Corporation. Other state owned enterprises and private companies involved in the project include State Electric Company (STELCO), Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Private Limited (RCC), Alia Construction and Amin Construction.
