Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid declared Sunday that the commitments between Maldives and India, which were announced during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's state visit to India last December, were underway.

He made the statement in a tweet following a sit-down with India's Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, who is currently on a two-day official visit to Maldives.

"The relationship between Maldives and India is indeed special!", declared the foreign minister in his tweet, stating that he was "very pleased" with the progress made on the commitments.

According to the foreign ministry, the two diplomats held bilateral talks and agreed on a wide range of issues for collaboration, including development cooperation and people-to-people contact.

Ministers Shahid and Swaraj also chaired a joint ministerial meeting between the Maldivian Cabinet and Indian External Affairs Ministry, during which discussions were held on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation on a spectrum of subjects such as consular issues, capacity development, economic development, health development, investment and trade.

The Indian Minister's visit follows an official invitation from Foreign Minister Shahid, and she is the first Foreign Minister received by Shahid since assuming office.
