Maldives' Foreign Minister extends Spring Festival greetings to China

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Tuesday conveyed greetings to China, on the occasion of the Chinese Spring Festival and New Year 2019.

Minister Shaheed extended warm felicitations and good wishes to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, and the government and people of China.

"China has been a close development partner of the Maldives. While thanking the people, and the Government of China for their continued assistance to the Maldives and its people, I am confident that the close friendship between China and the Maldives will strengthen and develop further in the year ahead", read the minister's message.

The Chinese New Year marks the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. Referred to as the Spring Festival, it begins on the new moon that appears between January 21 and February 20. The first day of the Chinese New Year fell on February 5 this year, initiating the 'Year of the Pig'.
