The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi visited the capital city of the Maldives for the first time to participate in the inauguration ceremony of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on November 17.

The Maldives have appealed to the Indian government for their aid of USD 250-350 million in order to manage the state budget for the following year. Shahid gave an interview to the Strategic News International (SNI) of India reporting that President Solih has already discussed the matter with Prime Minister Modi on his visit to the Maldives.

The former President Yameen’s close relationship with China left their alliance with India on bad terms although President Solih promised to resolve the issues with India before he was elected to office.
