The government has broken ground for the 100 affordable housing units at Lhaviyani atoll Hinnavaru.
The Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure's State Minister Akram Kamaluddin officiated the ground breaking ceremony on Sunday evening alongside Hinnavaru MP Jeehaan Mahumood and council members.
Maldives government contracted Dhonbeyz Private Limited for the design and build of the housing project in July 2022. The total value of the project is MVR 84 million, and it is to be completed within a year.
The project scope involves building 50 two-storey row houses of 700 square feet and another 50 single-storey housing units of 1,000 square feet. The ministry said all of the units will have three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, along with a living room, a dining area, a kitchen, laundry, and a storeroom.
The contractor is also required to develop a parking zone, as well as a park near the housing units.
