Maldives Foreign Minister and 76th President of United Nation's General Assembly Abdulla Shahid was conferred the highest state honour for foreign service by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday evening.

In a ceremony held to celebrate Maldives National Day, Shahid was awarded the "Nishan Izzudheen Izzath".

National Day is celebrated in Maldives on the first of Rabi ul Awal. This year, it falls on October 7. National Day's ceremony was held on Wednesday evening.

Shahid is currently visiting the Maldives as the UNGA President. He was given the honour to commemorate the services he is providing to Maldives and uplifting the nation's presence in international spheres.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said Shahid's work has provided a Maldives a voice, helping the nation's concerns be heard by the international community.
