President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih received his second dose of Covishield Covid-19 vaccine on Monday evening at Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE).
Revealing his inoculation via Twitter, the President urged everyone to get the vaccine at the earliest.
"If eight weeks have passed since your first shot, please go get your second dose now. Those who haven't got their first dose of vaccine, please go and get your shot now. Together we can beat COVID19."
On February 1, the President, along with Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and Chief Justice Ahmed Muhthasim Adnan kicked off the country's vaccination programme “Covid-19 Dhifaau”.
The programme intends to inoculate the entire population against Covid-19. Maldives began administering the second dose on April 3.
There are 09 vaccination centres and 02 mobile teams working under the vaccine drive in the Greater Male’ Region, and 237 vaccination centres active in the atolls.
As of now, over 255,881 persons received the first dose of the vaccine and over 7,951 persons had received the second dose as of yesterday.
In addition to the Covishield vaccine, the Maldives Food and Drug Authority had also authorised the use of the Sinopharm vaccine and the Pfizer vaccine have been approved for use against Covid-19 in the Maldives.
