Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Wednesday departed on an official visit to Morocco.

The minister expressed confidence that this visit would aid in further enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

While Maldives and Morocco established diplomatic relations in 1988, this marks the first time that a Maldivian Foreign Minister is visiting Morocco.

However, Minister Shahid met with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit held in Mecca during May.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Minister Shahid will hold discussions with the Moroccan foreign minister and other officials on further strengthening the prospering ties between both countries.

The ministry further revealed that multiple agreements will be signed during the visit.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of Maldives to UAE Dr Hussain Niyaz, Additional Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Shiaan and Assistant Director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Moomina Ibrahim.
