The staff of Bank of Maldives (BML) joined in on the global #TrashTag challenge on the occasion of World Environment Day.

The initiative was taken by BML staff working in islands or who traveled to islands for the Eid al-Fitr holidays, who cleaned up the environment and posted photos on social media with the hashtag #TrashTagMV before and after the clean-up for comparison.

The challenge was well-received by the public, who also contributed to the initiative by taking up the challenge to make Maldives trash-free.

Islands cleaned under #TrashTagMV include

- Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaalu Atoll

- Milandhoo, Shaviyani Atoll

- Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll

- Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll

- Gan, Laamu Atoll

- Dhiffushi, Kaafu Atoll

- Gemanafushi, Gaafu Alif Atoll

- Kolamaafushi, Gaafu Alif Atoll

- Maamendhoo, Gaafu Alif Atoll

- Fuvahmulah

- Addu

Various areas of capital Male' were also cleaned up under the initiative.

Others took up the challenge following BML's example to clean out areas filled with trash.

According to BML, the main aim of #TrashTagMV is to protect and conserve the environment, as well as raise awareness about the issue.

Minister of Environment Dr Hussain Rasheed Hassan congratulated, commended and endorsed the #TrashTagMV challenge.
