TreeTop hospital has introduced leadless pacemakers to Maldives, performing two pacemaker insertions on elderly heart patients thus far. The hospital stated that the availability of this procedure in Maldives will provide significant eases and reduce costs.
TreeTop Hospital has completed a pacemaker insertion procedure for the first time in Maldives.
The hospital has performed two leadless pacemaker insertion procedures thus far. TreeTop describes this accomplishment as a significant advancement to the heart treatment services offered by the hospital in Maldives.
The cardiology team of the hospital had performed this insertion at the cardiology catheterization laboratory of the hospital on a 79 year old patient and a 90 year old patient in order to regulate their heartbeat.
CEO of the hospital, Srivatsan Sridhar G stated that successfully completing the procedure has marked significant progress for the hospital and the health industry of the country alike. He highlighted the availability of the leadless pacemaker procedure in Maldives will offer alleviations to the patients previously compelled to travel abroad to receive the insertion. He further described that the introduction of this procedure will reduce expenditure on heart treatments for individuals with heart problems in Maldives.
Leadless pacemaker is a small self contained device inserted from the femoral vein in the leg and brought to the heart. It sends painless mild signals to the heart in order to regulate the heartbeat. Unlike traditional pacemakers, these self contained devices has an extra battery and small wires connected to generate electricity. Patients are offered significant eases through these leadless pacemakers.
Consultant in Cardiology at the TreeTop hospital, Dr Miqdhaadh Shareef stated that this technology is minimally invasive and allows the procedure to finish with a small incision. He had also highlighted that the procedure allows for decreased recovery time and therefore, less time spent in the hospital.
Minimal invasive procedures allow elderly patients to easily receive the treatment without opting for a major surgery. This procedure reduces cosmetic impact and allows the patient to return to their daily life in two to three days.
The procedure done at the TreeTop hospital to insert the leadless pacemaker was led by Dr Miqdhaadh, Consultant Cardiologist at the hospital, Dr Amit Agarwal and Visiting Cardiologist, Dr Arun Gopi.
