A graft allegation was filed against the Minister of Transport, Aishath Nahula, and another senior employee of the ministry at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Saturday.

A Transport Coordinator of the previous administration, Mahmood Shafeeq, confirmed to Mihaaru that he filed the case at ACC, requesting an inquiry into the matter.

He claims that he received information alleging Minister Nahula and an Assistant Director at the Transport Ministry, Rushoona Rashad, of obtaining financial gain while registering land vehicles.

He submitted the case to ACC with documents supporting the claim, he told to Mihaaru. The documents include reports stating that 57 vehicles were registered unlawfully.

While Rushoona's case has been referred to the ACC, she was also recently suspended by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in an ongoing investigation pertaining to vehicle registration.

The letter sent to ACC regarding the graft allegation stated that the vehicle registration process was carried out while misusing the second amendment made to the Motor Vehicle Registration Regulation. It claims that the mandatory vehicle import permit (L-10) required by regulations was not submitted.

It was alleged in the letter that Rushoona violated procedure by registering vehicles without entering or responding to letters addressed to the minister into the transport ministry's system.

The illegal registration of four-wheelers has recently become a major issue. A case was recently filed in the Civil Court after over 80 vehicle registrations were declared invalid and void by the Ministry of Transport. The court ruled that no action should be taken in response to the ministry's notice and revoked the ministry's notices stating that the vehicle registrations were invalid.

However, the ministry did not accept the ruling and has appealed the case at the High Court.
