Maldives and Ghana on Tuesday signed two key agreements that would enhance the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The agreements were signed during the sidelines of the 22nd Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting, held in London by the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. The signing ceremony was held at the Marlborough House in London.
The two agreements signed between the Maldives and Ghana were:
1. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the Republic of Ghana on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for their Respective Nationals.
2. Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana on Political Consultation.

The foreign ministry described the signing of the agreements as a "step towards closer bilateral exchange between Ghana and the Maldives through periodic consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries."
The ministry is also hopeful that the partnership will increase people-to-people contact facilitated through the mutual exemption of visas.
The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Ghana on August 10, 1989.
