Today, law enforcement has initiated the towing of vehicles found in violation of parking regulations in Male' and Hulhumale'.

Two days prior, a warning was issued by the police regarding the potential towing of vehicles engaged in illegal parking, causing disruptions for pedestrians and emergency services.

In a recent announcement on X, the police declared the commencement of the removal of unlawfully parked and old vehicles. Specific details about the towing process, however, were not disclosed.

Emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining organized roadways, the police underscored the need for collective efforts.

Accompanying the announcement were images depicting motorcycles being loaded onto a pickup truck, illustrating the enforcement of towing for illegal parking. The impounded bikes were towed near the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building in proximity to Henveiru Stadium.

The recent towing initiative marks a resumption of such actions after an extended hiatus, prompted by the prevalent issue of disorderly parking in the capital. Illegitimate parking on prohibited areas such as roads and sidewalks had become commonplace, causing inconvenience and raising concerns.

President Muizzu's statement clarified that parking stickers will not be affixed to vehicles until adequate designated parking spaces are provided in the city. This approach ensures that stickers are not issued even when vehicles are parked unlawfully.

In a previous announcement, the police had forewarned of taking actions against violators of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Motor Vehicle Parking Rules, starting on Thursday. Residents were urged not to park anywhere other than the designated zones in Male' city and Hulhumale' Phases 1 and 2.
