The Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs worth over MVR 3 million smuggled into the country via post.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the customs revealed that they discovered the drugs on 29 and 31 March, while inspecting a package containing beauty products after the authority became suspicious of its contents. The package was shipped from the UK through a courier service.
The substance found in the package tested positive for mephedrone, and weighed a total of 1.8 kilograms, the statement read.
Customs estimated the street value of the confiscated drugs at approximately MVR 3,240,000.
The drugs have now been handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation, the customs said.
