Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) deployed its helicopter early Monday in the ongoing search for a policeman that went missing near Addu atoll Gan island after a dinghy capsized.

Police and MNDF commenced the search Sunday night after the incident was reported around 8:30 p.m. Two vessels of the Southern Area Coast Guard in collaboration with a diving team have been searching for the missing policeman since.

Corporal Mohamed Sumaid, 27, of Addu atoll Hithadhoo island went missing after the dinghy he was travelling in capsized off the coast of Gan. He was accompanied by two other men, of Feydhoo island, who swum safely to the nearby Shangri-La Resort after their dinghy capsized.

According to MNDF, the dinghy has since been found on the reef to the south of Shangri-la.
