The Criminal Court has convicted a man to 20-years in prison for blackmail and rape of a woman.
Yoosuf Husam, from Shaviyani atoll Milandhoo, was sentenced in October 2019 for blackmailing a woman by threatening to post pictures of the victim on Facebook and sexually coercing her.
He pleaded not guilty to the two charges, but the Criminal Court ruled that he was guilty.
Husam was sentenced to five years in prison for blackmail and 15 years in prison for rape.
However, since he has spent more than three years in custody already, he will serve a 17 year prison sentence.
