Tourism Ministry’s statistics show 50 percent of the estimated tourist arrivals in 2022 has arrived to Maldives by mid-year.

The state budget had estimated 1.6 million tourists will arrive in Maldives this year.

According to the ministry’s statistics, 800,000 tourists have visited by the end of June. Over 100,000 tourists visited in June alone. The most number of tourists arrived in March this year, with 150,000 tourists.

The highest number of tourist arrivals have been recorded from India so far, with over 119,000 tourists. The second highest number of tourists arrived from the United Kingdom with 96,000 tourists while the third-highest number of tourists arrived from Russia with 81,000 tourists.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, tourist arrivals from the region have decreased significantly. Prior to the war, Russia was one of the countries with the highest number of arrivals to Maldives. The number of arrivals from the region appear to be increasing once again.

The Maldives recorded an average of 3,600 tourist arrivals per day. This is a decrease of 400 tourists compared to May. According to the Tourism Ministry, the highest number of tourist arrivals will be recorded this year, despite the low number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives.
