Maldives Media Council (MMC) holds discussions with Chinese Embassy in the Maldives, for the Asian giant to facilitate journalism training for local reporters.

The council is discussing with China to host training programs in collaboration with China's various and relevant academic institutes.

MMC President Mohamed Shafaau along with a senior delegation of the council met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to China, H.E. Wang Lixin to discuss capacity development for journalists. The discussions mainly focused on facilitating training trips for local reporters, and enhancing professional skills of journalists.

Additional topics of discussion include facilitation of prospective scholarship opportunities for journalism aspirants. The embassy assured MMC it will commit to the work of enhancing academic and training opportunities for journalists.

Apart from MMC President Shafaau, the meeting was also attended by senior members of the council including Ali Hussain, Ahmed Moosa, and the council's Secretary General Ibrahim Sameer.

China had previously facilitated similar long-term academic programs for Maldivian journalists. MMC had earlier discussed with the Japanese government to hold training programs for media professionals as well.
