Maldives tourist arrival in 2022 exceed 2021 annual total

According to Ministry of Tourism, tourist arrivals to the Maldives as of November 2, 2022 has exceeded the annual tourist arrivals in 2021.

The ministry confirmed tourist arrivals by the review date reached a total of 1,354,828 in annual terms. Total tourist arrivals for 2021 was at 1,321,937 by the end of December.

Moreover, the tourist arrival total so far in 2022 increased by 32.5 percent in annual terms, compared with the same period last year. In 2021, by November 2, tourist arrivals to Maldives reached 1,022,481.

Though arrivals have already exceeded the annual total of 2021, the current arrival total is still 3.4 percent below the same period in 2019 during which arrivals stood at 1,402,626.

The daily arrival average and average duration of stay in annual terms are 4,428 and 8.1 days, respectively.

Tourist source markets remained unchanged in their rankings. Moreover, India, the strongest source market to the Maldives, is inching close to 200,000 annual arrivals.

As of November 2, Maldives has a total of 1,199 registered tourist properties with a combined bed capacity of 59,853 out of which 1,195 properties are operational, which is a combined bed capacity of 58,957.

Maldives reports 170 tourist resorts with 41,285 beds collectively, out of which 166 properties are operational which translates to 40,389 beds. The country's tourism industry reports a total of 872 guesthouses and hotels, both registered and operational, which is 15,668 beds collectively. Currently a total of 157 safari vessels are registered and operating that contributes 2,900 beds to the industry.

A total of 29 international airlines are operating to the island nation currently, while earlier few notable airlines announced resuming their direct flight operations ahead of the tourism peak season.
