Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and Parliament Member Ilyas Labeeb, representative of Hulhudhoo constituency, is being investigated for failing to report the information they received to the police about the assassination attempt of Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

Police has not released an official statement on this matter yet.

An IED attached to a motorbike near Mohamed Nasheed's house exploded on May 6, injuring him and several others. Nasheed underwent multiple surgeries before he flew abroad for further medical treatment. He is currently in United Kingdom.

MP Ilyas has said he received some information prior to attack and informed Defence Minister via phone. But none of them reported to the police.

The Anti-Terrorism Act states that if anyone receives information about terrorist attacks, they are required to inform the police.

Following the attack, Parliament's Security Services Committee (241 Committee) conducted an inquiry into how Nasheed's security was breached. The report was passed by the committee on Wednesday evening and presented to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih today.

The inquiry summoned high ranking officials from Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Police, and even the team of doctors from ADK Hospital for their investigation. Mihaaru news had confirmed that police officials summoned had stated that they have started to investigate Minister Mariya and MP Labeeb regarding the intel received prior to the attack, as it was not shared with the relevant authorities.

The inquiry report states that Mariya had acted against established protocol regarding this matter. It further states if this information was shared with either of the aforementioned authorities, the security provided to Nasheed could have been strengthened.
