Visit Maldives is joining the Moscow International Travel Trade Show (MITT), the first physical fair held with industry partners to promote the destination following the border reopening.

Hosted in the Russian capital of Moscow from March 16 to 18, the MITT represents a platform for destinations and travel trade professionals from across the world to interact with travel agents and tour operators based in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

A total of 23 industry participants from 12 companies are scheduled to participate in the fair along with the Visit Maldives team. The Maldivian delegation aims to maintain and strengthen destination presence in the Russian market, as well as provide updated information on aspects including the stringent safety measures implemented to control the spread of COVID-19.

Furthermore, the offers the opportunity to gain new partners or clients and strengthen present relationships.

A total of 22,289 travel professionals attended the 2019 iteration of MITT, with 1,523 exhibitors from over 200 countries.

Visit Maldives and industry partners will showcase their products and unique experiences at stand A2041 in Pavilion 1.4 which is designated for Maldives. In order to attract more visitors to the Maldives stand, a banner showcasing the country's natural beauty is displayed at the main entrance of the fair.

The unique geographical formation of Maldives will be particularly highlighted at the stand through the use of 360 degree virtual images and videos. The promotional videos will be displayed via a touchless sensor in line with the Maldivian tourism industry's commitment to assure traveller safety and cater to present travel needs.

Additionally, a raffle will be conducted together with MITT organizers. The winner will secure a five-night complementary holiday for two individuals at Reethi Beach Resort, the sponsor of the raffle.

Following MITT, Visit Maldives will host roadshows in the Russian cities of Moscow, Kazan, Saint Petersburg and Ekaterinburg from March 21 to 26 March. The roadshows will be held in Moscow, Kazan, Saint Petersburg & Ekaterinburg. Alongside Visit Maldives, 20 companies with 34 participants will join the roadshows to further strengthen destination presence and relationships with trade partners.

According to recent statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, Russia is one of the top performing markets with 40,698 recorded tourist arrivals in 2021. While there are four connecting flights operating between Russia and Maldives, the Russian market also demonstrates potential for further growth.

Visit Maldives is conducting several initiatives to promote Maldives in the Russian market. This includes media familiarization trips, a global campaign in collaboration with Expedia and an educational program targeted towards the Association of Tour Operators in Russia (ATOR).

Maldives reopened borders on July 15 and managed to attract 172, 366 tourists before 2020 drew to an end.

On average, Maldives recorded 3000 arrivals per day after the country opened up for travel, peaking at 4200 per day during December.

Tourists visiting the country are required to fill an online health declaration form within 24 hours prior to departure and present a negative PCR test result conducted 96 hours prior to departure.

According to the Tourism Ministry, a total of 200,871 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year.
