Tourist arrivals to Maldives exceed 900k by late July

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives exceed 900,000 as of July 21, reports Ministry of Tourism.

The ministry's latest travel status update reveals total tourist arrivals by the review date reached 900,808. This is a 57.5 percent increment in annual terms compared with the same period of 2021 where tourist arrivals reached just 572,123.

Despite resilient improvement in the travel and hospitality segment, tourist arrivals so far in 2022 are still 4.8 percent below the pre-pandemic period in 2019.

The total number of holidaymakers arriving in the Maldives during the same period in 2019 stood at 946,064.

Daily arrival average in annual terms by the review period reached 4,482 with the average duration of stay bumping up to 8.1 days.

India maintains top source market position with 132,151 annual arrivals, which takes 14.7 percent market share while United Kingdom is ranked second with 104,667 annual arrivals with a market share of 11.6 percent.

Russia has managed to lock into third spot with an annual arrival total of 94,151 which is a 10.5 percent market share, while Germany remains consistent in fourth spot with 73,118 annual arrivals with a market share of 8.1 percent.

Other major source markets include Italy, United States, France, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and Spain.
