David Sisel will succeed Faris Hadad Zervos as the new Country Director of World Bank for the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
World Bank announced David Sisel as its new Country Director for the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka yesterday.
The decision will take effect from July 1, 2024, and Sisel will succeed Faris Hadad-Zervos, who will be taking on a new World Bank assignment.
Sisel, a dual national of the US and Italy, joined World Bank in 2001 and first served as an economist in the bank's Urban Cluster Unit. Since then, he has held various operational and managerial positions in different regions of the world.
His most recent post was based in Washington DC, where he was assigned as the Practice Manager for Urban, Disaster Risk Management and Land in the Latin America and Caribbean region.
“I am looking forward to my new role and meeting with all our stakeholders and partners soon,” said Sislen.
“My key priority will be to lead the strategic dialogue to shape and implement operational engagements in line with the Bank’s focus on speed, scale, and impact, working closely with the government, development partners, and diverse stakeholders.”
Under his new assignment to the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, he will oversee the World Bank portfolio of the countries which amounts to around USD 4.8 billion.
