Tourism Ministry unveils Golden Jubilee Stamps

The Maldives Ministry of Tourism has released special set of stamps in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of Maldives tourism industry.

A special ceremony was held on Wednesday, 16th February, evening to release the stamps.

The stamps were released by renowned tourism industry pioneers that included Mr. Mohamed Umar Manik the current Chairperson of MATI, Hussain Afeef who is a renowned hotelier, current Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem, Mr. George Corbin, and the country's very first Minister of Tourism Mr. Ahmed Mujthaba.

Speaking at the ceremony, incumbent Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom had retraced history noting that the day marked the arrival of the very first tourist group to the island nation.

Moreover, the minister had assured on several celebratory activities planned for the rest of the year in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee.

Tourism industry of the island nation was officially incepted back on 03rd October 1972 with the country's very first tourist resort's debut - Kurumba Maldives.
