Vice President Faisal Naseem, on Saturday, stated that economic activities must give precedence to Maldivians, with professional and vocational opportunities.
Speaking at the three-day Tourism Job Fair, organised by the Ministry of Tourism and held in Farukolhufushi, VP Naseem stated that women are in dire need of employment, noting the importance of opportunities within the tourism sector.
He highlighted that government institutions were working closely with the private sector to create possibilities for youth employment within tourism, adding that the 'Tourism Job Fair' was a beginning to increase job opportunities.
This year's tourism job fair unveils over 500 jobs for locals in the hospitality industry, with 67 resorts in participation.
The fair was inaugurated by Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail on Friday night. The opening ceremony was also attended by Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon and some members of the parliament.
The government launched the tourism job fair in a bid to increase Maldivian presence in the hospitality industry.
