Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam has lodged a complaint with the Maldives Police Service against Maafannu North MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, denying allegations he made against her regarding former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's security.
Imthiyaz had earlier filed a police complaint alleging Rozaina and Henveiru North MP Hussain Shaheem made remarks against the state's security for Speaker Nasheed with ill intent, stating they could potentially put Nasheed's life at risk.
Rozaina condemned the accusations and said that they could incite violence against her by Nasheed's supporters who are concerned about his safety.
Rozaina said Nasheed's earlier allegations against MP Shaheem had put him in circumstances that threatened his life.
"I request the Maldives Police Service to investigate the baseless allegations made by Maafannu North MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, who accused me of being involved in the attempted murder of President Nasheed without any evidence. If any criminal offense is found in this matter, I urge you to take legal action," Rozaina said in her letter to the police.
Rozaina said that having differences in political ideologies and criticizing Nasheed is not a reason to harm him.
"I have never advocated against the provision of security for Nasheed or changing the way security is currently provided," Rozaina said in her letter.
She also accused Imthiyaz of making false allegations against her because of his failure to weaken her political standing and win political debates against her.
