Speaking at the 'Ahaa' public forum, Minister Shaheem said that the ministry's debt had now been paid off, and work has resumed on several paused projects.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has announced that the ministry has repaid the MVR 27 million debt owed by them when he assumed office. The minister also confirmed that he has resumed a number of projects which had been halted at the time.
Speaking at the 'Ahaa' public forum of cabinet ministers last night, the Minister said that even though facing economic difficulties, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had arranged within his first two weeks in office for the repayment of this debt which had been carried over from the last administration.
Shaheem also stated that projects concerning the building of mosques in various islands have also been resumed now. These projects had earlier been halted due to lack of funding.
The Minister further said that the islamic centres located in various regions of the Maldives had also been neglected and in disuse during the past administration, adding they have now been restored and are being utilized to set up Islamic University centres.
This is meant to facilitate Islamic higher education on the islands.
