Major prizes for the FHAM Culinary Challenge

Major prizes have been presented for this year's Culinary Challenge at Food and Hospitality Asia Maldives (FHAM).

Speaking at a press conference held by FHAM on Wednesday, Managing Director of the event Imran Hassan said the most number of contestants are participating in the Culinary Challenge. The exhibition, held from 28-30 August, will select the Best Culinary Establishment amongst the contesters.

He also said that 11 resorts will compete in the best establishment category.

Participants will be given the opportunity to win cash prizes and training programs in this year's Culinary Challenge. Nestle International, the main sponsor of the challenge, presented a cash prize of USD 1,000 to the individual who wins Best Chef in the competition.

Lily International, the principal sponsor of the event, has offered the individual who wins the title of Best Pastry Chef an all-expense paid training program from abroad.

Speaking about the challenge, Founder and President of Chefs Guild of Maldives Mariyam Noordeen said the challenge will provide opportunities for many skilled Maldivians. She said that it will be honor for many Maldivian chefs to be on the judging panel along with several international judges for the challenge.

A total of 75 chefs from 29 resorts participated in the workshop held in July to prepare for FHAM's Culinary Challenge. More than 500 chefs from 54 resorts are also scheduled to compete in the challenge.

The opportunity to participate in FHAM's competitions remains open, which include a Culinary Challenge as well as a Mocktail Challenge, a Barista Challenge and a Housekeeping Challenge. FHAM believes that each of these challenges will be taken as a step towards further strengthening the quality of resorts in the Maldives.
