Ministry of Education confirmed on Monday, to have launched an investigation into the case of an Islam teacher working at Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE).

A statement released by Education Ministry affirmed the institution's belief that the allegations raised against Hassan Zareer by various students carried weight, and that the matter is considered high priority.

The statement further read that from an individual in a trustworthy position, especially when committed against children under his care, such acts were unacceptable.

Although the Ministry has yet to reveal the nature of allegations against Zareer, local media Mihaaru reported that the Islam teacher is being investigated over threats issued to certain students.

The Ministry iterated that they would always prioritise making the classroom a safe space for students. Adding that strict measures will be taken against any school staff that subjects a student to any level of bullying or harassment, the ministry guaranteed that any parties committing acts that may compromise a child's physical health or dignity will be investigated and punished.

Ministry of Education assured that they will continue to ensure that schools provide a safe and joyous environment and feasible learning opportunities for students.
